I'm Walking for Parkinson's in Honour of My Grandfather, Louis Christiaen
This September, I will be participating in the Walk for Parkinson’s in support of the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario. I’m walking in memory of my grandfather, Louis Christiaen, who courageously battled Parkinson’s disease for many years. He and I were close, and it was heartbreaking to watch how this progressive disease gradually took away his independence and vitality.
For over a decade, I’ve volunteered with the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario and am proud to now serve on its Board of Directors. This organization has become a vital source of hope, support, and connection for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s across our region.
Parkinson’s is a complex, degenerative neurological disease that affects movement, speech, and everyday tasks most of us take for granted. While medications can manage symptoms, there is currently no cure. And the need is growing—by 2031, the number of Canadians living with Parkinson’s is expected to double.
That’s why I’m walking. And that’s why I’m asking for your support.
Every dollar raised through the Walk stays local. Your donation will directly support over 10,000 people in Southwestern Ontario through essential programs, services, advocacy efforts, and research initiatives. Together, we can ensure that there is always a place for those living with Parkinson’s to turn to—a place like Home.
Please support me as I walk in honour of my grandfather and for everyone affected by this disease. Thank you for helping make a difference.
